Mission
Through education and organizing, we convene an inter-faith community to accompany the people of Latin America in their work for human rights and social justice.
-
Fostering greater awareness of the consequences of policies and laws that connect the people of the United States and Latin America
-
Building relationships among allies and directly impacted communities to effect change in United States’ policies and laws that support Latino/a/x-led struggles for equity and justice in the US as well as in Latin America
-
Intentionally practicing presence of mind and body in order to prioritize transformational human connection, recognize and diminish the harmful impacts of privilege and bias, and lay foundations for collective power-building that overthrow destructive systems
Our values
-
Respecting each person’s autonomy to act on their own intuition and wisdom
-
Acting with honesty and transparency in all situations, even when the outcome of doing so is unclear
-
Recognizing the unity of our mutual struggles towards liberation and supporting each other with compassion
-
Showing resolve and resilience through our actions, while sustaining optimism about our collective future
-
Creating spaces that are inclusive to all communities and prioritize equity, so all are able to find joy in the many manifestations of what it means to be human
-
Communicating and organizing with intentionality, naming systems of oppression, so we can more aptly dismantle them while amplifying more adequate narratives that do not damage the movement(s) in the future
Since 1977, IFCLA has collaborated with congregations, schools, and organizations in the St. Louis metropolitan area, across the US, and internationally to work for a more just and equitable world community.
