In the wake of the 2017 Honduran elections, the Honduran government has shut down the peaceful protests by killing, disappearing, and arresting their own citizens. Sister Rosa Maria Trochez, SSND, will visit St. Louis to testify about rising repression in Honduras and call for peace and justice in the country.
A native of Honduras, Rosa Maria accompanied thousands of refugees as a pastoral agent in Mesa Grande, Honduras in the 1980's. Today living in El Progreso, Yoro, she upholds the rights of women and the poor in coordination with her community as well as the Jesuits and local and national social movements.
