Stop the Police-to-ICE Pipeline in MO!

The Missouri Legislature is working hard to separate families, target communities of color and get immigrants out of our state. But we know that these kinds of laws do not represent your values. Take action today to speak out against Missouri Senate Bill 589!

Introduced by Sen. Burlison, SB589 makes Missouri less welcoming to immigrants by barring local communities from offering protections or extending welcoming policies. This bill would force municipalities to divert funding towards immigration enforcement and jeopardizes public safety. If passed, this bill would increase the occurrence of racial profiling in our communities and expand the dangerous practice of voluntary detainers - threatening constitutional rights to due process for all.

SB589 undermines already delicate trust between local law enforcement and the families and communities they serve. Victims of crime and witnesses to crimes committed in our communities should feel safe when reporting those crimes to local police. When they are not, the safety of everyone in our community is at risk.

Immigration law and enforcement thereof is the responsibility of the federal government. SB589 would mandate the police-to-ICE pipeline that already destroys our families and our communities and distracts local law enforcement from doing their job.

Missouri should be investing in strengthening our communities, protecting our families and honoring the dignity of all who live, work, study and travel in our state. SB589 blocks us from doing so and makes it impossible to truly love our neighbors.
