Visitors from Ayotzinapa, Mexico

At the end of October, we welcomed Felipe de la Cruz Sandoval and Mario Cesar Gonzalez Contreras, fathers of two young students that were impacted by the brutal police and state-sponsored violent attack and forced disappearance of 43 students.
Honduran Dialogue
On October 12, we gathered at Papagayo’s Honduran Restaurant to hear from Elise Roberts of Witness for Peace, Martin Fernandez of the Movement for Dignity and Justice—Honduras, and local student activists Nay’Chelle Harris and Hattie Svoboda-Stel about the current state of affairs in Honduras.
2016 Annual Dinner
On November 13 we had our Annual Dinner.  The keynote speaker was Marlen Sanchez from the Nicaraguan Asociación de Trabajadores del Campo (ATC) whose experience is in the field of agroecology, grounded in ancestral knowledge, native seeds, and horizontal learning exchanges.  She spoke to us about Food Sovereignty and Justice.  We also heard from Ellie Urbani, one our interns, who had recently represented IFCLA as a volunteer interpreter at an immigration detention center in Dilley, TX, working with Central American women and children.
Meeting with Representative Lacy Clay
In July, a small group went with the Peace Economy Project and met with Rep. Clay.  We managed to briefly discuss events in Honduras and other Latin American issues.
Cuban Dialogue
On September 19 we gathered at the Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood to welcome Professor Santiago Perez-Benitez.  With support from Dr. Dan Hellinger at Webster University, Prof. Perez-Benitez, who is the Sub-Director of the Center for Research on International Politics in Havana, Cuba and is also affiliated with the University of Havana, gave a fresh perspective on US-Cuba relations and fostered a fantastic dialogue about our countries’ shared history.
